Join Us!
Hey! Think you might be interested in making some comics with us? Awesome.
We are currently recruiting dedicated aspiring comickers to join us in achieving world domination making some epic comics. We accept all kinds of styles and create comics of any type and genre – the more unique your style or ideas, the better! We work for experience and for the love of creating comics. Our aims are to entertain people and to make great art.
At the moment, we are looking for:
- WRITERS – to help write some short comic scripts of around 20 pages (NOTE: We do not accept ‘script submissions’ of people’s personal projects. More information on this below)
- COMIC ARTISTS – to draw the above short comics
- INKERS – to make the clean lineart based off the pencils from the comic artist
- SCREENTONERS/SHADERS – those who are skilled in the art of ‘screentoning’ or otherwise shading in black, white and grey (skill in inking is also a big plus)
- COLOURISTS – those who are skilled in the art of colouring (primarily digital but we could probably work with traditional too)
- LETTERISTS – to add speech bubbles, dialogue and sound effects in an appropriate font
- EDITORS – knowledgeable people familiar with comics who will be able to give suggestions as to panelling, pacing, flow, dialogue etc. as well as catch grammar and spelling errors
- CHARACTER DESIGNERS – to design the look and outfits of the main characters for our comics
Note: The studio is not a group of artists-for-hire to draw people’s personal projects. Any requests to draw an already-completed script or to draw a comic with a specific plot and set of characters will be rejected. We are also not here to turn your idea into a comic for you. Anyone who would like to write a script for the studio should apply as a writer and work together with the rest of the studio to create an idea from the ground up.
We are also only looking for short comics to write and draw. No long series or chaptered epics. We have enough of those on our plate right now
We do not pay people in Gaia Gold or give out any other forms of payment/compensation for being in the studio. We do this for experience and for the love of comics, nothing more.
So, if you’ve got this far and you’re still keen on applying, congratulations
But just to make sure you know what’s involved in being part of a studio like ours, we’ve compiled a short quiz for you to complete (just answer in your head, no need to write anything down) before you send in your application. Be honest now!
- Are you organised enough to keep to deadlines?
- Are you prepared to dedicate free time to the studio above any personal projects you might have?
- Are you capable of taking the initiative to see, or ask, what needs doing around the studio and do it without needing to be nagged?
- Can you commit to a project from the start until the very end, whether it may take a month, six months, a year or more?
- Will you be active in the studio outside of just creating comics? (This includes things like getting to know the other studio members, being active in the deviantART group or in the Gaia Online thread, writing blog entries, etc.)
If the answer to all of these questions is ‘yes’, then please go ahead and apply below! Otherwise, you should reconsider applying to the studio, since these are all things which we expect of our members.
